Catholics in the Wyalong district were cared for by the clergy from Grenfell until 1894 when the first resident priest, Father Fogarty, arrived and the parish of West Wyalong was established. Since that time, 21 parish priests have served the parish. The present St. Mary's Church was opened in 1928. |
In recent years, the adjacent parishes of Ungarie-Burcher and Weethalle-Tailimba- Rankin's Springs have been without a parish priest and are now administered by the parish priest of West Wyalong, making an area of about 140 km by 110 km.
St Mary's Parish is a very active community. Find out more.
The Sisters of Mercy arrived in 1896 to set up St. Patrick's School at Wyalong and later St. Mary's School in West Wyalon. Many Sisters of Mercy have served here and many young women from the district have joined the Order over the years. We are privileged to have the Sisters of Mercy still with us living out their mission as a prayerful presence among us and being a support and help to us all.
